- Work in coordination with the MOPH and other relevant units of WHO e.g. CDC/NCD, WHE to ensure IPC priorities and activities are managed effectively in compliance with the national standard operating procedures and the WHO IPC guidelines.
- Assess IPC capacities and practices in emergency units, hospitals and health care facilities. Identify action plans and priorities for improvement and prepare a written report according to WHO templates in collaboration with MOPH and partners. Provide technical recommendations to partners and key players to achieve improvement actions and monitor implementation.
- According to local needs and requests, review the IPC measures implemented and advise on prevention of healthcare-associated infections in healthcare settings.
- Assess training needs, develop training plans and conduct IPC training for staff at health facilities.
- Provide guidance on immediate IPC policies, resources, equipment and training needed for emergency units and healthcare facilities.
- Provide technical support the MOH in documenting the response and health system restoration and strengthening activities, as and when required.
- Provide technical input and insight to national health authorities in the field of patient safety, health care quality, infection control and injection safety aspects.
- Collaborate with other colleagues at WCO to conduct events, workshops, training sessions, meetings, producing and disseminating of educational materials related to quality and patient safety
- Perform any other related task as required by the supervisor.
Education (Qualifications):
Educations:
Essential: First university degree in medicine
Desirable: Master’s degree in public health preferred.
Experience:
Essential: At least 2 years working experience in developing, implementing and evaluating infection and prevention control policies, procedures and tools in low resource settings, and outbreaks and or health emergency response, Patient Safety and Quality.
Desirable: Demonstrated knowledge of Afghanistan public health system and IPC, Previous experience with WHO, in UN organizations/agencies
Languages: Fluency of spoken and written English and local language.
IT Skills: Good knowledge of Microsoft applications.
