Key Responsibilities

1. Shariah Research & Advisory

  • Conduct detailed Shariah research on Islamic financial products, contracts, and transactions.
  • Prepare Shariah opinions, research papers, and briefing notes for internal stakeholders and the Shariah Board.
  • Analyse classical Fiqh sources (Qur’an, Sunnah, Ijma’, Qiyas) and contemporary scholarly opinions related to Islamic finance.
  • Must be familiar with Hanafi Jurisprudence
  • Support interpretation and application of Hanafi Jurisprudence and AAOIFI Shari’ah Standards to banking products and operations.
  • Support business and product teams in structuring new Islamic banking products.
  • Review proposed product concepts and provide Shariah research input.
  • Benchmark Islamic financial products with regional and international best practices.
  • Benchmark Islamic financial products with regional and international best practices.
  • Advise the Sharia Head on emerging Sharia issues affecting the banking industry.
  • Ensure proper documentation and traceability of Sharia opinions.
  • Support Sharia Review Officers with jurisprudential input.
  • Provide Sharia interpretation during audits, inspections, and internal reviews.
  • Assist in preparing Sharia training materials and internal guidance notes.
  • Support Sharia awareness programs for staff.
  • Promote consistent understanding of Islamic finance principles across the Bank.


qualification

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Shariah /Islamic Studies / Fiqh al-Muʿāmalāt/Islamic Finance
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Professional certifications (preferred):
  • AAOIFI CSAA / CIPA
  • Other recognized Islamic finance qualifications

Experience

  • 1–3 years of relevant experience in:
  • Shariah research
  • Islamic banking
  • Shariah compliance or Shariah audit
  • Practical exposure to Islamic banking products and documentation is an advantage.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong Shariah research skill
  • Strong knowledge of Fiqh al-Muʿāmalāt
  • Familiarity with Hanafi Jurisprudence and AAOIFI Shari’ah Standards
  • Understanding of DAB Islamic Banking & Shariah Governance regulations
  • Research, analytical, and writing skills
  • Ability to draft clear Shariah opinions and reports
  • Good communication and coordination skills
  • Proficiency in national languages (Dari and Pashtu), Arabic (for classical texts) is highly desirable
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

  • Maintain independence, integrity, and objectivity in Shariah research.
  • Ensure confidentiality of all Shariah Board discussions and bank information.
