As the Shariah Finance Specialist, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Product Design & Development
- Develop, review, and validate Shariah-compliant financial products including Murabaha, Ijarah, Musharaka, Mudaraba, and Qard al-Hasana.
- Provide guidance on structuring contracts, profit-sharing models, and product documentation in compliance with Islamic jurisprudence.
- Collaborate with product managers and IT teams to ensure accurate digitization of Shariah-compliant workflows in core banking systems.
Shariah Compliance & Governance
- Ensure all financial operations, policies, and products adhere to AAOIFI, IFSB, and national Shariah governance frameworks.
- Conduct regular Shariah audits and reviews to maintain compliance across product lines.
- Draft and review Shariah-compliant standard operating procedures (SOPs) and process manuals.
- Prepare reports and compliance findings for internal management and Shariah Supervisory Boards.
System Integration & MIS Alignment
- Support the integration of Shariah-compliant products into core banking and MIS systems.
- Work closely with IT specialists to ensure accurate product configuration, accounting treatment, and reporting within digital platforms.
- Validate profit calculation, cost allocation, and product accounting entries in line with Shariah principles.
Advisory & Capacity Building
- Provide technical Shariah advisory support to finance, compliance, and product development teams.
- Conduct training and awareness sessions on Islamic finance concepts and operational compliance.
- Offer consultation to microfinance institutions, fintech partners, and project stakeholders on Shariah-compliant financial inclusion models.
Monitoring, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Oversee Shariah risk identification and ensure appropriate mitigation measures are implemented.
- Maintain an updated library of Islamic finance regulations, fatwas, and product templates.
- Contribute to the enhancement of internal policies and audit tools for ongoing Shariah compliance.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Islamic Finance, Shariah Studies, or related fields.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in developing, reviewing, or auditing Islamic finance products such as Murabaha, Ijarah, Musharaka, and Qard al-Hasana.
- Strong understanding of Islamic jurisprudence (Fiqh al-Muamalat) and financial product structures.
- Familiarity with MIS and core banking systems used by Islamic financial institutions.
- Excellent analytical, advisory, and report-writing skills.
- Fluency in written and spoken English is required (Arabic language proficiency is an asset).
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of AAOIFI standards, IFSB guidelines, and national Shariah compliance frameworks.
- Experience working with Islamic microfinance institutions or digital Islamic banking platforms.
- Ability to translate Shariah requirements into functional specifications for IT and product teams.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for collaboration with Shariah boards, auditors, and regulators.
