- Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct regular and ad-hoc Sharia reviews of banking products, financing operations, treasury activities, deposits, and service offerings.
- Review contracts, agreements, procedures, and marketing materials for Sharia compliance.
- Verify implementation of Sharia Board fatwas, resolutions, and instructions.
- Perform Sharia reviews on selected transactions and product processes.
- Identify Sharia non-compliance issues and assess their impact.
- Recommend corrective and preventive measures.
- Support the development and enhancement of Sharia review methodologies, programs, and checklists.
- Ensure proper documentation of Sharia review work and findings.
- Support integration of Sharia controls into business processes.
- Prepare periodic Sharia review reports for the Sharia Head and Sharia Board.
- Track implementation of corrective actions and follow up on outstanding issues.
- Escalate material Sharia non-compliance matters promptly.
- Coordinate with Internal Audit, Compliance, and Risk Management on Sharia-related matters.
- Support joint reviews where Sharia risk overlaps with operational or compliance risk.
- Provide Sharia input during audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews.
- Support business units during product development and process changes.
- Provide Sharia review input before new products or services are launched.
- Review system configurations affecting Sharia-based products.
- Support Sharia awareness initiatives and staff training programs.
- Assist in preparing Sharia guidelines and reference materials.
- Promote a strong Sharia compliance culture across the Bank.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Sharia, Islamic Jurisprudence, Islamic Banking & Finance, or related field
- Master’s degree in Islamic Finance or Sharia is a strong advantage
- AAOIFI CSAA/ CIPA will be preferred
Experience
- Minimum 1–3 years of experience in Islamic banking, Sharia review, or Sharia audit
- Practical knowledge of Islamic banking products, contracts, and structures
- Experience working with Sharia Boards and control functions is preferred
9. Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of Fiqh-ul-Muamalat and Islamic finance principles
- Understanding of banking operations and financial products
- Strong analytical and documentation skills
- High ethical standards and professional integrity
- Ability to work independently and objectively
- Good communication and reporting skills
10. Performance Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated based on:
- Quality and effectiveness of Sharia reviews
- Timeliness and clarity of reports
- Reduction of Sharia non-compliance issues
- Implementation rate of corrective actions
- Contribution to strengthening Sharia governance

The Sharia Review Officer shall:

- Avoid conflicts of interest
- Act with independence and objectivity
- Comply with Sharia governance framework and bank policies
