Patrolman (I & C - Instrumentation & Control Engineer) - Field Operator

duties

  1. Ensure safe and efficient operation of all instrumentation and control systems to support plant reliability, availability, and environmental compliance.
  2. Monitor, inspect, operate, and record I&C parameters in the field and local panels, responding to alarms and abnormalities promptly.
  3. Perform routine and preventive maintenance, calibration, testing, and troubleshooting of field instruments (e.g., transmitters, analyzers, switches, control valves).
  4. Support plant start-up, shutdown, changeover, and emergency procedures, ensuring instrumentation systems operate within defined limits.
  5. Conduct visual and physical inspections of I&C devices to detect signs of malfunction (e.g., noise, temperature, pressure variations, leaks, or corrosion).
  6. Maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate instruments such as gas flow meters, orifice plates, pressure and differential pressure transmitters, temperature sensors, and level gauges.
  7. Carry out maintenance and inspection of specialized equipment, including gas chromatographs, H₂S analyzers, gas heaters, and meter stations.
  8. Maintain proper configuration, calibration records, schematics, and test data, ensuring compliance with OEM manuals and plant quality standards.
  9. Provide accurate technical feedback to the Control Room Engineer and Maintenance Team, assisting in the diagnosis and resolution of I&C issues.
  10. Ensure proper installation and commissioning of instrumentation equipment, adhering to quality plans and safety procedures.
  11. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment, ensuring the integrity of sensitive instrumentation devices.
  12. Assist in preparing and updating maintenance procedures, manuals, drawings, and documentation relevant to instrumentation systems.
  13. Support compliance with site Safety and Environmental policies, participating in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and incident prevention.
  14. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying system weaknesses and proposing enhancements.
  15. Interpret and work with technical drawings, logic diagrams, wiring schematics, service manuals, and P&IDs.
  16. Perform functional checks, cable laying/testing, and commissioning of instrumentation systems during major overhauls or plant upgrades.
  17. Respond to dispatch requirements and communicate effectively with DABS, NLCC, and AGE dispatch, reporting field data and system changes.
  18. Assist in operational activities when needed to return the plant to service as quickly and safely as possible.
  19. Document and report on daily shift activities, including instrument readings, test results, and equipment conditions.
  20. Adhere strictly to plant safety rules, ensure safe supervision of contractor activities, and report unsafe conditions or incidents.
  21. Perform housekeeping and equipment cleaning in instrument rooms, local panels, and field locations to maintain high operational standards.
  22. Any other duties as assigned by supervisors or O&M management to support plant operations and maintenance.
  23. Design, configure, and maintain PLC, DCS, ECS, and SIS systems using Siemens TIA Portal.
  24. Develop and edit PLC logic using LAD, FBD, STL, and SCL.
  25. Configure safety PLCs and fail-safe logic for SIS systems in compliance with IEC 61508/61511.
  26. Maintain Siemens WinCC and SCADA HMI systems.
  27. Configure alarms, trends, events, faceplates, and historical data logging.
  28. Program and maintain Allen-Bradley PLCs (ControlLogix, CompactLogix, MicroLogix.
  29. Develop applications using RS Logix 5000 / Studio 5000.
  30. Perform loop checking, functional testing, and commissioning of control systems.
  31. Participate in FAT, SAT, cold commissioning, hot commissioning, and plant startup activities.
  32. Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for automation and instrumentation failures.
  33. Create and manage PLC, HMI, TIA Portal (DCS, ECS, and SIS and SCADA backups.


qualification

  1. Bachelor’s degree, preferred a degree in instrumentation and control engineering.
  2. Solid foundation and hands-on experience in power plant operations, especially in instrumentation and control systems.
  3. In-depth understanding of gas turbine operations, plant control systems, and associated auxiliary equipment.
  4. Skilled in monitoring, operating, and troubleshooting field instrumentation and control panels.
  5. Ability to recognize abnormal equipment conditions (e.g., vibration, noise, temperature, or visual changes) and respond promptly.
  6. Proficient in interpreting technical drawings, such as P&IDs, single-line diagrams, and control logic diagrams.
  7. Strong coordination skills with control room engineers, maintenance teams, and engineering staff.
  8. Capable of providing accurate feedback to support troubleshooting and maintenance of instrumentation systems.
  9. Knowledge of electrical equipment, high-voltage systems, and integration with control and monitoring instruments.
  10. Computer literate, with experience in data logging, monitoring software, and maintenance systems.
  11. Strong commitment to Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards and safe work practices.
  12. Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively in multi-cultural, cross-functional teams.
  13. Performs well under pressure, especially in emergencies, with the ability to prioritize critical tasks.
  14. Analytical and problem-solving skills for identifying, diagnosing, and resolving instrumentation-related issues.
  15. High attention to detail in calibration, documentation, and maintenance of precision instruments.
