Task and Responsibilities
- Assisting the Patient Support Activity Manager in assessing the patient support needs, defining the patient support strategy according to the changing medical needs and context, and developing patient support tools (counselling/education protocols, health promotion messages, etc.)
- Ensuring, monitoring, and evaluating the implementation of patient support activities according to MSF protocols, standards and procedures
- Ensuring good communication and collaboration with the other components of the project and other partners working on patient support
- Supervising and supporting the staff under his responsibility, planning and organizing their work
- In close collaboration with the HR department, supervising the associated HR processes (recruitment, training, induction, evaluation, potential detection, coaching, development and internal communication) in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required.
- Ensuring data collection and analysis of patient support activities (collecting reports of patient support staff, summarizing reports, etc.)
MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities
· Contribute to the project’s transversal/muliti-disciplinary approach to the patient charter and implement components under the responsibility of the health promotion team.
· Lead the design and implementation of assessments to capture patient support needs (focus group discussions and patient interviews/patient experience surveys).
· Contribute to the creation and implementation of the Breastfeeding Support project at both health facility and community level.
· Participate when requested in Afghanistan Mission HPCE trainings.
· Participate when requested in Herat Project inter-departmental trainings and workshops.
· Contribute to the defining and adaptation of the patient support and health promotion strategy according to the changing patient needs and operational context.
· Implement the HPCE strategy created for Herat Regional Hospital and corresponding community-based locations, with a specific focus on nutrition, breastfeeding, vaccination uptake and safe medication use.
· Lead and follow up on the implementation of the strategy / workplan, according to the chronogram.
· Develop quality contextualised targeted patient support tools (counselling/education protocols, health promotion messages, etc) to enable patient and caretakers to more simply understand treatment and health advice. Ensure adherence to protocols (pretesting, validation of content, translation).
· Deliver trainings/refresher trainings to the health promotion team according to MSF protocols and HPCE guidelines, under the direction of the Intersectional mission HP Coordinator.
· In line with monthly/quarterly indicators, monitor departmental activities by ensuring precise and accurate data collection. analyze data and suggest strategic adaptations following review of the departmental data.
· Supervising and supporting the staff under his responsibility, including performance monitoring of Health Promotion Officers (HPOs) through utilization of skills-grid tool to identify training needs, gaps in health messaging and to structure the provision of regular employee feedback.
Patient Centred Care
· Demonstrate good communication and collaboration with departmental supervisors and managers to ensure strategic cohesion and a transversal multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.
· Ensure the inclusion of patient participation in the medical activities through creating regular opportunities for assessment, patient consultation/two-way dialogue and patient feedback channels.
· Contribute to the project’s transversal/muliti-disciplinary approach to the patient charter and implement components under the responsibility of the health promotion team.
· Organizing health talks for MSF's medical and non-medical staff, including sensitizing non-medical staff on the patient charter
· Support the implementation of patient care tools and practices for enhanced treatment adherence (treatment understanding survey, LAMA, defaulter tracing, referrals, linkage to care and patient follow-up.
· Oversee social networking and community mapping with community representatives (Community Leaders, Community Health Supervisors) to strengthen community-based health education and linkage to care.
· Through daily and weekly communication meetings and updates, be a communication focal point for the health promotion department.ensure good communication of health promotion activities to the broader project and similarly ensure that all health promotion team members receive regular updates on the broader project and medical strategy.
· Ensure the practical organisation of the HP team activities (roster, health talk scheduling) in correspondence to the HPCE strategy, applying approaches that support patient centred care.
Minimum Requirements and Competencies
Education
University degree in psychology/ counselling/ social sciences/health promotion/ educational sciences / nursing.
Experience
Desirable 3 years of previous experience and previous experience in other NGO’s
Desirable 2 years’ experience in health promotion programmes.
Demonstrable experience in supervising and training others in a team setting.
Languages
English, Pashto and Dari essential
Knowledge
Basic competencies in word and excel are essential.
