Equipment Lifecycle Management
- Develop a comprehensive asset register and preventive-maintenance plan covering production, packaging, and utility equipment in line with OEM recommendations and GMP guidelines.
- Oversee installation, alignment, and commissioning of new machines; coordinate with vendors to complete installation and operational qualifications.
- Execute routine inspections, lubrication, calibration, and functional checks, ensuring timely completion of work orders and accurate maintenance records.
Reliability & Troubleshooting
- Lead root-cause analyses for mechanical failures or process deviations; issue clear corrective and preventive action (CAPA) reports and monitor their effectiveness.
- Collaborate with electrical and automation colleagues to diagnose drive, PLC, sensor, or power-supply problems that impact mechanical performance.
- Analyze downtime trends, identify chronic issues, and implement engineering solutions to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
GMP Compliance & Documentation
- Maintain audit-ready documentation: maintenance logs, calibration certificates, change-control records, and equipment history files in accordance with WHO and Ministry of Public Health GMP standards.
- Participate in internal and external audits, providing technical explanations and corrective plans when observations relate to equipment or maintenance practices.
Spare-Parts & Vendor Management
- Establish critical-spares lists, safety-stock levels, and procurement lead times; ensure parts are genuine and traceable to approved suppliers.
- Negotiate service contracts with OEMs or qualified local vendors for highly specialized tasks such as HMI updates, servo-motor repairs, or HVAC balancing.
Continuous Improvement & Projects
- Contribute mechanical input to new-line expansions, such as the forthcoming GMP syrup line, ensuring design for maintainability and adherence to cGMP from day one.
- Drive energy-saving, cost-reduction, and sustainability projects (e.g., variable-frequency drives, heat-recovery loops, or compressed-air leak audits).
Team Leadership & Training
- Recruit, train, and supervise maintenance technicians on safe work practices, lock-out/tag-out, GMP documentation, and first-line troubleshooting.
- Foster a culture of safety, reliability, and continuous improvement, aligning day-to-day activities with Biomorphex’s ethical values and production goals.
Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE)
- Enforce compliance with local HSE regulations, company safety policies, conduct risk assessments and emergency-response drills specific to mechanical hazards.
- Ensure proper handling and disposal of lubricants, refrigerants, and other maintenance-related chemicals.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related field (minimum).
- A Master’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering is highly desirable and may substitute for part of the experience requirement.
Professional Experience
- For Bachelor’s holders: 7–10 years of progressively responsible maintenance or engineering experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, food, or other GMP-regulated process industries.
- For Master’s holders: 3–5 years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated hands-on expertise with automated filling and packaging lines, utility systems (HVAC, purified water, compressed air), and associated validation activities.
- Proven track record of leading or supporting equipment qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) and maintaining audit-ready documentation.
Technical Competence
- Strong foundation in mechanical design, vibration analysis, lubrication, pneumatics, hydraulics, and basic thermodynamics.
- Working knowledge of electrical fundamentals: motor control centers (MCC), variable-frequency drives, basic PLC concepts, sensors, and low-voltage troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), reading P&IDs, and applying root-cause analysis tools (e.g., 5 Why, Fishbone, FMEA).
- Sound understanding of GMP, ISO 9001, and applicable WHO/ICH guidelines for production environments.
Soft Skills & Personal Attributes
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project-management skills.
- Clear verbal and written communication in English is essential; working knowledge of Dari or Pashto is an asset.
- Leadership style that motivates technicians, promotes safe behaviors, and maintains a sense of urgency in a start-up setting.
- High ethical standards, cultural sensitivity, and a proactive mindset compatible with Biomorphex’s values.
Other Requirements
- Full-time, on-site presence at the Kabul plant with flexibility for occasional travel to vendor sites or training programs.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and respond to off-hour emergencies when critical equipment is down.

Our headquarters is in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, while our production plant is located in Kabul’s Green Industrial Park. Backed by an initial capital investment of over $1 m, we are preparing to commission our first GMP-certified line for Povidone-Iodine 10 % topical disinfectant solutions, offered in standard retail and hospital pack sizes. A fully GMP-compliant oral-liquid (syrup) line will follow in the near term.
Our mission is to supply safe, effective, and affordable medicines that lower Afghanistan’s dependence on imports, stimulate local employment, and uphold both Islamic and universal humanitarian values. By combining modern equipment with a highly trained workforce, Biomorphex intends to strengthen the national health-care supply chain and contribute to the economic self-reliance of Afghanistan’s private sector.
