Scope of work:
The Livelihood (Agriculturist & Food Security) Specialist will work under the direct supervision of the Central Region Area Manager and in close collaboration with other ABADEI PMU.
The Livelihood (Agriculturist & Food Security) Specialist will have the following duties and responsibilities:
• Assist in planning, implementing, and monitoring livelihood and food security activities in line with project objectives.
• Provide technical support to design the livelihoods projects (farming, business support, and access to finance) in line with UNDP, ABADEI, ROK and other relevant project outputs. Support to strategic positioning and development of the livelihood components of the programme.
• Provide technical support to farmers on, greenhouse management (Installation, Production, IPM/IDM) fruits and vegetables dehydration techniques, cold storage, and post-harvest management.
• Strengthen local farmers’ groups to enhance collective action, resource mobilization, and access to markets.
• Promote nutrition-sensitive agriculture, climate smart agriculture and gender-inclusive livelihood opportunities.
• Support establishment and management of Afforestation, and community-based farming initiatives.
• Assist in identifying and promoting high-value crops, market linkages, and income-generating opportunities.
• Conduct assessments and identify the needs at the community level in the regions.
• Provide technical guidance for the market linkages/value chain development specific to agriculture/MSME development.
• Lead implementation and monitoring of livelihoods projects (on-farm & off-farm activities), ensuring synergies with other ABADEI outcomes.
• Contribute to the development of technical documents/specifications for the market surveys and capacity building of beneficiaries on various skills/activities.
• Support the design and implementation of climate resilience and disaster risk reduction activities, including natural resource management.
• Conduct regular field visits across all locations within the assigned region to ensure the quality implementation of program activities.
• Ensure that livelihood interventions are integrated and sustainable and provide high value for money.
• Ensure that UNDP projects have synergies and are complementing other actions carried out in the same implementation area.
• Develop and maintain good working relations with communities, partners, other UN actors and any other stakeholders.
• Ensure grievance redressal management in relation to activities for which s/he is responsible.
• Ensure compliance with and implementation of UNDP’s corporate guidance, with focus on social and environmental standards.
• Ensure the visibility of UNDP interventions in the field, along with preparation of different communication products, for publication. Identify and develop impact and human-interest stories.
• Ensure that the project records are well maintained and entered in the monitoring system and contribute to the preparation of high-quality reports.
• Regularly coordinate with other staff in the region and cooperate with staff in other regions.
• Perform any other duties as required by the supervisor.
Institutional arrangement: The Livelihood (Agriculturist & Food Security) Specialist works under the direct supervision of the Central region Area Manager, in coordination with other ABADEI PMU at the regional and national levels.
Payment: Monthly bases
Travel Cost and DSA: Salary is inclusive of DSA and Travel Cost
Duration of the assignment: 6 Months
Duty station: Badakhshan, Faryab, Daikundi,
Experience and Skills:
• 3 years of experience with Master’s degree or 7 years of experience with Bachelor’s degree
• Proven skills to conduct assessment and analysis of market/Livelihoods related activities.
• Experience in value chain development and analysis.
• Experience in access to finance and saving groups.
• Experience in disaster resilient / Natural resource management projects.
• Experience with national / INGO experience in the related field.
• Strong knowledge and understanding sub-national institutional contexts of Afghanistan.
Competencies:
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Good oral and analytical communication and writing skills
• Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.)
• Good team player, self-starter, has ability to work under minimum supervision and maintain good relationships.
Language Requirements:
Proficiency in written and spoken English and fluency in local languages, Pashto and Dari is required.
