duties

Supervision of Agriculture and Livestock Activities

  • Oversee and coordinate agriculture and livestock interventions at the district level, including crop production, horticulture, irrigation, livestock rearing, animal health, and related initiatives.
  • Ensure all agricultural and livestock activities comply with technical standards, project guidelines, and seasonal calendars.
  • Conduct regular field visits to supervise and assess the quality of implementation.

Technical Support & Guidance

  • Provide technical guidance to field staff, community groups, and local partners on climate-smart, sustainable agriculture and livestock practices.
  • Assist farmers in adopting improved seeds, fertilizers, irrigation methods, pest management, and livestock breeding and feeding techniques.
  • Support livestock health management including vaccination, disease prevention, and nutrition.
  • Promote nutrition-sensitive and climate-resilient approaches across both agriculture and livestock activities.
  • Align district-level interventions with FAO technical standards and project frameworks.

Capacity Building & Technical Training

  • Design and deliver training sessions, workshops, and demonstrations for farmers, women groups, youth, and other beneficiaries on both crop and livestock practices.
  • Enhance field staff capacity through coaching, mentoring, and refresher training.
  • Develop farmer-friendly manuals, training materials, and extension guidelines in coordination with the project team.
  • Ensure training content aligns with FAO technical approaches and project strategies.
  • Monitoring, Data Collection, and Reporting
  • Monitor and evaluate field activities, ensuring compliance with project targets, quality standards, and timelines.
  • Collect accurate data on crop yields, livestock performance, farmer participation, training outcomes, and other indicators.
  • Prepare regular progress reports, success stories, and case studies for submission to the project manager and donor.
  • Identify challenges, risks, and opportunities and propose solutions for improvement.

Community Engagement & Coordination

  • Build strong relationships with local authorities, community elders, and farmers’ and livestock associations.
  • Facilitate community mobilization and participation in agricultural and livestock activities.
  • Represent the organization at district-level meetings, coordination forums, and extension events.

Other Responsibilities

  • Ensure gender equality, environmental sustainability, and inclusivity are integrated into all interventions.
  • Support emergency responses, including droughts, floods, or livestock disease outbreaks, through timely input distribution and technical assistance.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the project manager in line with organizational objectives.

qualification

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Agriculture, Veterinary Science, Animal Husbandry, Social Science, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in agriculture and/or livestock project implementation.
  • Strong knowledge of crop production, horticulture, irrigation, livestock management, and animal health practices.
  • Proven experience in field coordination, community mobilization, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and capacity-building to field staff and beneficiaries.
  • Familiarity with FAO systems, project implementation procedures, and reporting standards.
  • Fluency in Dari, Pashto, and English.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, travel frequently to field locations, and adapt to challenging environments.
