As a Database Administrator / IT Security Officer, your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Database Administration & Optimization
- Manage, maintain, and optimize enterprise databases supporting financial and operational systems.
- Design and implement database structures, stored procedures, and performance tuning strategies.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot errors, and ensure high availability and scalability.
- Maintain data integrity and reliability through proper indexing, partitioning, and replication.
Backup, Recovery & Business Continuity
- Develop and execute backup and disaster recovery plans for all critical systems and data.
- Regularly test restoration procedures to ensure data recoverability and minimal downtime.
- Implement redundancy and failover mechanisms to maintain operational continuity.
- Maintain detailed logs and audit trails for compliance and accountability.
IT Security Management
- Design and enforce IT security policies, procedures, and access control mechanisms.
- Implement data encryption, firewalls, and intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS).
- Conduct regular security assessments, vulnerability scans, and penetration tests.
- Ensure timely patch management and system updates to mitigate security risks.
- Manage incident response processes and coordinate resolution of identified threats.
System Integration & Digital Payments Security
- Support secure API integrations for mobile money and digital payment systems.
- Ensure compliance with security standards for financial data exchange (PCI DSS, ISO 27001).
- Work with developers and vendors to safeguard transaction channels and customer data.
Compliance, Monitoring & Reporting
- Maintain compliance with regulatory, donor, and internal IT security requirements.
- Prepare technical documentation, incident reports, and audit findings.
- Monitor network activity, data flows, and system access using automated tools.
- Support management with timely updates on IT risks, vulnerabilities, and mitigation status.
Capacity Building & Technical Support
- Train IT staff on security awareness, data protection, and system usage best practices.
- Provide tier-3 support for database and security-related issues.
- Develop internal guidelines for user roles, password policies, and information handling.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in database management and IT security.
- Proven expertise in mobile money and digital payment integrations via APIs.
- Demonstrated experience implementing backup, encryption, and disaster recovery protocols.
- Proficiency in SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle database environments.
- Knowledge of firewalls, network security tools, and access control systems.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
- Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with cloud-based infrastructures (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Experience with security standards (ISO 27001, NIST, or CIS) and data privacy regulations (GDPR, PSD2).
- Certification in Database Administration, IT Security, or Ethical Hacking (e.g., CEH, CISSP, or CompTIA Security+).
- Understanding of digital financial ecosystems and transaction-level security.
