duties

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (Not all-inclusive)

  • Act as the primary UNHAS aviation staff at field level and coordinate daily aviation operations in line with WFP Aviation Services policies and UNHAS SOPs/SAOPs.
  • Liaise with civil aviation authorities, airport management, security entities, ground handling agents, and fuel providers.
  • Coordinate with UNHAS users on flight schedules, passenger and cargo movements, and operational constraints.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with airport personnel and operational stakeholders.
  • Support flight following, passenger handling, cargo coordination, and MEDEVAC operations.
  • Monitor and implement aviation safety and security procedures and report any incident and irregularities.
  • Maintain accurate operational records such as statistics, and reports.
  • Conduct supervisee(s) performance evaluation(s) through PACE or PAR.
  • Supervise and manage support staff assigned to filed location
  • Responsible for team management and optimum utilization of resources in a cost-efficient manner.
  • Any other task assigned by UNHAS management/ direct supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE


Education:

  • Completion of secondary school education required.
  • Post-secondary education or training in aviation, air transport management, logistics, or related field desirable.


Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in aviation or airport operations, preferably with humanitarian or international organizations.
  • Experience in field or remote duty stations required.
  • Technical Knowledge/Skills:
  • Training or certification in aviation operations, flight dispatch, ATC, or aviation safety is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of ICAO SARPs, UN aviation policies, and WFP Aviation Services procedures desirable.


FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES – AVIATION & SAFETY

  • Knowledge of air transport operations, ground handling, and flight coordination.
  • Understanding of aviation safety management, risk awareness, and incident reporting.
  • Ability to apply UNHAS SOPs/SAOPs and basic ICAO standards in daily operations.
  • Capacity to coordinate multiple stakeholders under time means.
  • Strong attention to detail and operational discipline in a safety-critical environment.

LANGUAGES

  • Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and local languages (Pashto/Dari)
