- Develop and implement an annual audit plan to assess financial, operational, and compliance risks.
- Conduct risk-based internal audits to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with Afghanistan regulatory requirements, international microfinance standards, and internal policies.
- Identify and report potential risks, fraud, or inefficiencies, providing actionable recommendations for improvement.
- Supervise and mentor a team of audit staff, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Prepare and present detailed audit reports to the Board and senior management, highlighting findings and corrective actions.
- Collaborate with external auditors and regulatory bodies during inspections or audits.
- Monitor the implementation of audit recommendations and follow up on corrective actions.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in microfinance auditing.
- Ensure confidentiality and integrity in handling sensitive financial and operational data.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree or professional certification such as CIA, CPA, or ACCA preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in internal auditing, preferably in the microfinance or financial services sector.
- Strong knowledge of Afghan financial regulations, microfinance operations, and international auditing standards (e.g., IIA).
- Proven leadership and team management skills with the ability to mentor and develop staff.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Proficiency in audit software, financial systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, in English and Dari/Pashto (fluency in local languages is an advantage).
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and handle sensitive information with discretion.
