Pharmacy Officer

duties

·      Manage receipt, storage, inventory control, and distribution of medicines and medical supplies.

·      Ensure pharmaceutical products are stored properly, according to national and international standards.

·      Conduct regular stock assessments and maintain updated stock records (manual and/or electronic).

·      Perform quality control checks on all received pharmaceuticals to ensure compliance with specifications, including checking packaging, labeling, expiry dates, and integrity of products.

·      Support health facility staff in rational use of medicines, prescription audits, and adherence to treatment guidelines.

·      Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly reports on drug consumption, stock levels, and needs forecasts.

·      Coordinate closely with procurement and logistics teams for timely ordering and replenishment.

·      Monitor expiry dates and ensure safe disposal of expired or damaged products.

·      Conduct on-the-job training and supportive supervision of pharmacy staff in health facilities.

·      Ensure compliance with Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) policies and any relevant donor guidelines.

·      Participate in health cluster meetings, pharmaceutical management training, and supply chain reviews when needed.

·      Support emergency responses through timely supply chain management of emergency drugs and kits.

·      Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in handling pharmaceuticals.

Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor to support the health program.

qualification

Education:

·      Graduate from Pharmacy Faculty of IHS, Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy (BPharm) is preferred from a recognized University of IHS.

Experience:

·      Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience in pharmacy management, preferably in NGOs or healthcare settings.

·      Experience working in humanitarian or development health programs in Afghanistan is an advantage.

Language Skills:

·      Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto (both written and spoken).

·      Working knowledge of English is preferred.

Skills and Competencies:

·      Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical supply chain management and inventory control.

·      Familiarity with national drug policies, BPHS/EPHS standards, and essential drug lists.

·      Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills.

·      Good understanding of quality assurance and rational use of medicines.

·      Strong communication, supervision, and training skills.

·      Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

·      Ability to work independently and as part of a team under stressful conditions.

·      Fluent in Dari and/or Pashto; working knowledge of English is preferred.

Other:

·      Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
