duties

Audit Planning & Management

  • Develop and implement the annual risk-based internal audit plan in line with institutional objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Allocate audit assignments, manage audit schedules, and ensure timely completion of engagements.
  • Prepare and manage the Internal Audit Department’s budget and resource plan.


Audit Execution & Supervision

  • Conduct and supervise audits of branches, head office departments, financing operations, treasury, HR, procurement, MIS, and Sharia-compliant products.
  • Ensure audits are performed in accordance with Internal Audit Standards, DAB regulations, and best practices.
  • Carry out special audits, investigations, and surprise checks, including fraud and misconduct reviews.
  • Ensure proper audit documentation and working papers are maintained.


Reporting & Follow-up

  • Prepare clear and timely audit reports, highlighting findings, risks, root causes, and practical recommendations.
  • Monitor and follow up on management action plans and report unresolved issues to senior management and the Audit Committee.
  • Provide periodic updates to the Chief Internal Auditor on audit activities and risk trends.


Internal Control & Compliance

  • Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls, policies, and procedures.
  • Assess compliance with Hamkar MFI policies, Sharia principles, DAB regulations, and donor requirements.
  • Review the reliability and integrity of financial, operational, and management information.


Risk Management & Governance

  • Support the institutional risk management framework by identifying key operational, financial, and compliance risks.
  • Coordinate with Risk Management, Compliance, and External Auditors to ensure effective governance.
  • Promote ethical behavior, transparency, and accountability across the institution.


Capacity Building & Advisory Role

  • Provide on-the-job training and guidance to internal audit staff.
  • Advise management on improving processes, controls, and operational efficiency without compromising independence.
  • Support institutional strengthening and continuous improvement initiatives.


Miscellaneous

  • Perform any other audit-related duties assigned by the Chief Internal Auditor or Audit Committee.
  • Provide translation support (Dari–English) for audit reports and official documents, when required.

qualification

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of Internal Audit Standards, IFRS, and financial institution auditing.


Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of internal audit experience, preferably in microfinance, banking, or financial institutions.


Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong understanding of microfinance operations and Islamic finance principles.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and audit/accounting software.
  • Strong analytical, report writing, and problem-solving skills.
  • High ethical standards, confidentiality, and professional judgment.
  • Ability to work independently, under pressure, and with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Dari.
  • Willingness to travel to branches when required.
