English Language Trainer

Scope of work: 

The Trainer will be responsible for:

• Conducting a pre-training assessment to evaluate participant proficiency levels and tailor the curriculum accordingly.

• Designing and delivering an interactive, context-relevant curriculum aligned with UNDP/UNV communication standards and workplace expectations.


Delivering instruction focused on:

o Report and analytical writing

o Drafting UN-style emails and internal communications

o Role-play and simulations for interviews, meetings, and presentations

o Conversational fluency and professional vocabulary for formal and informal settings

• Utilizing a variety of instructional methodologies (e.g., case studies, writing exercises, simulations, peer feedback) to foster dynamic engagement.


• Assigning and reviewing weekly written and oral tasks with individualized feedback.

• Submitting monthly progress reports, including:

o Attendance records

o Participant performance updates

o Feedback summaries

o Challenges encountered and adjustments made


• Maintaining a minimum 85% attendance threshold for participants to be eligible for Certificates of Completion.

• Preparing a final training report summarizing:

o Pre- and post-assessment comparisons

o Learning outcomes achieved

o Participant feedback

o Recommendations for future training


• Conducting a post-training assessment to evaluate progress and identify further development needs.


Institutional arrangement: The Trainer will report directly to the EGEMA Project Manager and will coordinate and follow up with the UNV Programme Support Officer for all aspects related to training logistics, participant engagement, and performance monitoring.

All training materials must comply with UNDP’s Gender and Social Dimensions Monitoring Framework and align with the project’s guiding principles of Do No Harm (DNH) and Leave No One Behind (LNOB), ensuring inclusive, gender-sensitive, and context-appropriate delivery throughout the assignment.


Payment: Monthly bases

Duration of the assignment: 1st May to 31st August 2025.

Modality: Virtual (Remote delivery via Zoom or Teams platforms)

Frequency: Four sessions per week (Monday to Thursday)

Daily Sessions: Two sessions per day (2 hours morning and 2 hours evening) 


The schedule aligns with the availability of IUNVs, who are currently based outside Afghanistan and observe Sundays as their weekend.

Experience and Skills: 

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, Applied Linguistics, or relevant field (master’s preferred)

• TOEFL, IELTS, ESOL, CELTA, or equivalent certification

• Minimum 3 years’ experience teaching English to adults in professional contexts

• Demonstrated experience in technical and business writing instruction

• Familiarity with UN or international development language and workplace culture preferred

• Strong facilitation and communication skills; culturally sensitive and gender-aware


Competencies: 

• Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills, especially in diverse, multicultural settings.

• Clear and effective communicator with excellent command of English.

• Ability to create engaging, inclusive, and supportive virtual learning environments.

• Skilled in using interactive teaching methods tailored to learner needs.

• Flexible and responsive to participant feedback and progress.

• Organized, with experience managing assessments, reports, and training materials.

• Awareness of gender-sensitive approaches and challenges faced by Afghan women learners.


Language Requirements:

Proficiency in written and spoken English and fluency in local languages, Pashto and Dari is required.
