Communication and Donor Visibility Officer

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Communications and working closely with other colleagues in the WHO country office, the incumbent will perform the following duties:

  • Liaise with program leads and technical officers to identify programs/projects funded by donors and develop quality communication products highlighting donor impact and achievements.
  • With the coms unit -- produce public information materials such as human-interest stories, press releases, facts sheets, notes for the media, social media posts, and other material on donor-related activities, events, products, and issues for use by the print, electronic and online media.
  • Collaborate with all relevant actors, including UN agencies, Non-State Actors, and other partners, to identify and create communication opportunities on donor visibility.
  • With communication unit, draft social media content acknowledging funding and celebrating donors’ impact, track performance of digital communications, and guide to best digital strategy.
  • With communication unit, organize photographic shoots, interviews, and filming opportunities to support high visibility of donor impact through various public platforms.
  • Organize donor visits in provinces and/or field projects to collect quality audio-visual content.
  • Monitor donor-related coverage and programs and provide regular reports and plans for optimal visibility.
  • Prepare communication and advocacy products and statements to convince and encourage donors to fund the overall health sector response rapidly.
  • Perform any other communications-related duties, as required by the direct and functional supervisor.
  • Contribute to the development of shared practices, standards and tools across WHO EMR and in alignment with global WHO branding and policies in the relevant area of expertise.

Qualifications Requirements:


Education:  

Essential: University degree in communications, journalism, social sciences, public relations, public health or related field from a recognized university.

 

Desirable: Advanced training demonstrated in journalism, social sciences, communication media and mass media, public relations, public health or related fields.

 

Experience:

Essential: Minimum of one (1) year of experience in communications and donor visibility, external relations, public relations, mass communications, media engagement and outreach in a reputable organization

 

Desirable: Experience in WHO or UN agencies, or organizations and NGOs, preferably on health-related issues. Work experience or knowledge of policy development with the government is an asset.

 

Functional skills and knowledge:

·        Excellent writing and editing skills in English, Dari and Pashto and develop compelling stories on public health issues and highlight health needs in a strategic manner.

  • Strong experience and links in working with the media
  • Knowledge and understanding of organizational use of social media and photography skills.

§ Good organizational skills with good understanding of health issues.

§ Demonstrated ability to work in teams with the capacity to work under pressure and a high degree of independence.

·        Ability to communicate effectively to facilitate positive changes and strategic partnerships with government officials, UN agencies, development partners, private sectors, and nongovernmental organizations.

·        Ability to establish harmonious working relationships as part of a team and with other teams within the Organization; and

·        Ability to respond to diverse educational and cultural backgrounds and maintain a high standard of personal conduct.

Language requirements:

·        Written and spoken fluency in English, Pashto and Dari is essential.

 

IT Skills:

- Proficiency in MS Office and knowledge of PowerPoint is essential

- Knowledge of Adobe, especially Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Premiere, is essential as well.
